How to Waterproof Your RC Electronics: A Beginner-Friendly Guide
When it comes to RC cars, trucks, boats, or even drones, water can be one of the biggest threats to your electronics. A sudden puddle splash or unexpected rain shower can quickly turn your fun into frustration. Luckily, waterproofing your RC electronics isn’t complicated. With the right steps, you can keep your RC running strong even in wet conditions.
RC electronics—like ESCs, receivers, servos, and batteries—are sensitive to moisture. Water exposure can cause short circuits, rust, or even permanent failure. By adding a layer of protection, you not only extend the life of your RC but also enjoy worry-free adventures on wet ground, snow, or muddy trails.

Liquid electrical tape or Plasti Dip is great for sealing the ESC. Apply carefully, leaving connectors open.
For receivers, place them inside a balloon or plastic waterproof case for a budget-friendly shield.
Some servos come waterproof, but if yours isn’t, apply a thin layer of silicone grease around the case joints and output shaft to keep water from sneaking in.
LiPo batteries don’t like water. While the casing provides basic protection, always keep them away from direct splashes. For extreme use, wrap the battery with heat shrink tubing or use a waterproof pack bag.
Water often sneaks in through connectors. Use dielectric grease on plugs and joints to prevent corrosion and shorts. Heat shrink tubing around exposed solder joints is also a good idea.
Even with waterproofing, always:
Dry your RC thoroughly after wet runs.
Use compressed air or a soft towel to remove moisture.
Check bearings and metal parts to avoid rust.
No RC is ever 100% waterproof, but with the right precautions, you can confidently splash through puddles or run in the snow without fear. Waterproofing is not just protection—it’s peace of mind.
